Because of their ground breaking new sounds in the 1980’s but also because of their totally new clothing style which had big influence on the way people look in the UK. Spandau Ballet was formed by Gary Kemp and Steve Norman who knew each other from the school. They were closed friends before they decided to form “The Cut” which later in 1978 became the very successful British band Spandau Ballet. The english band had their first UK hit during fall 1980 with “To Cut a Long Story Short” shortly after that they scored another UK hit with “The Freeze” and not much later in 1981 “Musclebound” toped the UK charts. “Musclebaund” was the first single in the American charts which was the start of their U.S. success. From that moment on, they played in a lot of dance clubs in the U.S and soon after that they released the number one hit single “I Don’t Need This Pressure On” which was more funky and soulful as previous hits.

Spandau Ballet has achieved international fame in 1983 with their third album “True” that could be found back at the highest chart rankings in many countries. After that, Spandau Ballet made it to the UK and U.S. charts once more with “Gold” which included the hit singles “instinction” and “Lifeline”. In 1989 they decided to split up and all go their own ways.

At a press conference on 25 March 2009 on board of the HMS Belfast in London they announced their come back tour through Ireland and the UK. 8 dates were announced but because of the great demand soon, extra dates were added for The O2 Arena in London, LG in Birmingham and an extra date at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
