Othello London drama

A story of racism, love and jealousy, "Othello" is the Shakespearean tragedy about how a love between two people suffering from the storm of one's jealousy and obsessive behaviour. The noble and brave Othello grapples with the spiteful Iago and his own possessive emotions. Passionate and touching, this classic tragedy is a revealing look into the hearts of men; relevant and revealing even in the modern age.

William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Othello, is believed to have originated in 1603. Based on the Italian story "Un Capitano Moro" (A Moorish Captain) that dates back to 1565. The plot concentrates on four characters: the protagonist, Othello, a Moorish general employed by the Venetian army; his wife, Desdemona; the lieutenant, Cassio; and the ensign, Iago.

Lenny Henry, better known for his appearance on such TV series as Three of a Kind, Chef! and The Lenny Henry Show, takes the lead role of Othello. Jessica Harris takes on the role of Desdemona, and Matt Connor plays Roderigo.

Othello is brought to you by the Northern Broadsides and West Yorkshire Playhouse production company. It is being performed at Trafalgar Studios until mid-December, so book your tickets soon!
