Storia del Vaudeville Theatre

Il Vaudeville Theatre è un teatro del West End di Londra su “the Strand”, nella “City of Westminster”. Progettato dall’architetto C.J.Phipps, ha aperto per la prima volta il 16 Aprile del 1870 con la commedia “Per Amore o per Soldi”. Come suggerisce anche il nome, nei primi anni di attività ospitava prevalentemente vaudevilles e spettacoli musicali.

Sarebbe impossibile elencare tutti i grandi successi ed i grandi attori che sono saliti sul palco di questo teatro. Tanto per citarne alcuni: Gladys Cooper ha debuttato in The Belle Of Mayfair, Sybil Thorndike in “Arsenic and Old Lace”, Ian Carmichael in “Critic’s Choice”, Alan Bates in “Stage Struck”, Albert Finney in “Reflected Glory”, Michael Gambon e Jonathan Pryce in “Uncle Vanya”, Maggie Smith in “Snap”, Glenda Jackson in “Stevie”, Julia Mackenzie in “Woman In Mind”, Pauline Collins in “Shirley Valentine”, Maureen Lipman in “Re: Joyce!”, Alison Steadman in “The Memory of Water” e Macauley Caulkin in “Madame Melville”.

Dal 6 Febbraio 2009 al 31 Maggio 2009 sarà rappresentata la commedia “Woman in Mind”.
