"Calendar Girls" is an onstage comedy modeled after the movie, and the real life story of a successful fundraising campaign for Luekemia Research. This quirky and inspirational story, ironically showcases a group of wonderful and daring naked woman!
When Annie Clark's husband dies of leukemia at a young age, she decides to buy a comfortable couch for the visitor area of the hospital her husband was treated in. To raise money and awareness, Annie came up with a brilliant but controversial idea to have ten other middle aged woman pose alongside her nude in a calendar. After much consideration, these woman decide to take the risk. Annie than hired an amatuer photographer to help along with the ideas behind the calendar. The woman decide to take nude pictures of women completing every day tasks such as sewing, cooking, cleaning, etc.
As the calendar takes off, it acquires plenty of controversial issues with the local Women's Institute, when it refuses to sanction the calendar. The women then take the case to the national congress and were then finally are able to release the calendar to the public. The women and the calendar, dubbed the 'Calendar Girls,' gained national and international fame. The 'Calendar Girls' were even invited to Los Angeles onto the Jay Leno Show. The calendar gained more fame than ever imagined, bringing in sales of over £1.3 million and counting to go towards leukemia research at the University of Leeds.
Eventually fame brings even more controversy. As the 'Calendar Girls' gain more press and attention, tension arrises between Chris and Annie. Chris and Annie strip each other down with heated arguments of their personal lives... Annie believing that Chris is ignoring her husband, children, and family business while Chris believes Annie is taking on a "Mother Theresa"-like status with all of her fans. Eventually the two simmer down the tension and return to their lives with clothes on.
"Calendar Girls" is a comical interpretation of the inspiration true story of Angela Baker and her 'Calendar Girls.' The theatre show evokes heart felt and emotional feelings from the audience. Anyway they are assigned by the theatre as soon as you book your tickets and will be the best available at the time of reservation. All seats booked in the same price group will be together in the theatre. However in the very remote event of this not being possible we will call you and give you the possibility of cancelling your reservation.
