In September 2009, London's O2 Arena will play host to the epic, theatrical production of Ben Hur. Ben Hur live at the O2 is an adaptation of the 1959 Charlton Heston blockbuster movie which won 11 Oscars. This event, on the 50th anniversary of the screenplays release, is set to push the frontiers of live entertainment. Ben Hur's German creator Franz Abraham commented that “The show [Ben Hur live at the O2] will have the speed of a musical, the depth of great theatre, the power of a rock concert and the visual opulence of a Hollywood blockbuster.”

Ben Hur Live at the O2 will most certainly prove to be a unique performance bound to excite any audience as the production uses over 400 performers and 100 animals not to mention the vast array of light, sound, wind, water and pyrotechnic effects which will be on display to the audience. The sheer magnitude of this production of Ben Hur requires an unimaginable amount of preparation. For example, the thoroughbred horses used in Ben Hur have undergone 12 months of intensive training in prepartion specifically for this particular spectacle.

The highlight of the show is expected to be the unprecedented live chariot race which has never been presented with this level of intensity as it occurs just 2 metres from the first row of seating not to mention the five quadriga which will be storming the arena live for the first time ever.

The narrator and actors will be speaking in English with a few scenes planned to be conducted in latin. This massive production promises to be entirely unique in the sense that it will blend ancient biblical undertones with famous Roman traditions all within a modernised environment complete with special effects and an overwhelming musical score.
